Kyrgyzstan to increase wheat production to the level of 1.3 mln tonnes
On February
8, Torogul Bekov, the Minister of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan, informed that the
real consumption of grains in the country exceeds the standard by two times,
the level of provision totals 73%.
It is necessary to increase wheat production to the level of 1.3 mln tonnes per year, including 1.06 mln tonnes for supporting of the food security, and remaining 250 thsd tonnes – seeds, added T.Bekov.
According to the Minister, Kyrgyzstan still does not have any legislative basis for providing of the food security. The state food reserves are oriented for supplying of the vulnerable sections of the population, but if it is necessary, the Government will provide food to all sections of the population, stated T.Bekov.
