First immune-histochemical laboratory opened in Kyrgyzstan
KABAR, November 29. The opening of the first immune-histochemical laboratory in Kyrgyzstan took place at the Kyrgyz National Oncology Centre on November 24.
This important event for the republic’s oncology service became possible thanks to the efforts of the Public Fund «Ergene» within the program «Early diagnosis and prevention of breast cancer in Kyrgyzstan» with financial support from the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Until now, cancer patients from Kyrgyzstan had to undergo immune-histochemical testing in Kazakhstan or Russia, which imposed a significant financial burden on patients and their families. From now on the immune-histochemical laboratory in Bishkek will improve the quality of oncology care in terms of diagnostics, validation of diagnostic accuracy and the development of individual treatment plans.
Under the auspices of the breast cancer prevention programme, the laboratory will be fully equipped. The laboratory will be supplied with all the necessary breast cancer testing chemicals and reagents until the end of 2011. Thus, all women will get laboratory testing services free of charge.
The overall goal of the program is to reduce the breast cancer mortality rate through early diagnosis and treatment. In addition, the project is aiming to raise public awareness about breast cancer, introduce routine clinical breast examinations and organize mobile medical teams.
