President Atambaev met with Central Asian Metropolitan Vikenty
Bishkek, January 25 / Kabar /. Central Asian Metropolitan Vikenty introduced to the President Almazbek Atambaev Bishkek and Kyrgyz bishop Feodosy elected by the decision of the Holy Synod.
The presidential press service reports that, during the meeting Atambaev gave thanks to His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill for a decision to open an independent diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church in Kyrgyzstan.
Speaking about the development of traditional religions, the head of state said that they should return their space. "We will treat differently the religious situation in the country. The last 20 years not enosgh attention was paid to that", said A. Atambaev and added that the State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic now under the supervision of the President.
"We will continue to protect citizens' constitutional rights to freedom of religion. And, of course, will strengthen and preserve religious tolerance ", assured the President.
