Kyrgyzstan asks San Marino to support its candidacy for the UN ECOSOC for the period of 2013-2015
Bishkek, May 18 / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev during a meeting with Foreign Minister of San Marino Antonella Mularoni asked to support its candidacy in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the period of 2013-2015.
According to the information of the MFA of the Kyrgyz Republic, the meeting took place on May 17 in frames of the participation in the UN high-level thematic debate "The condition of World Economy and Finance in 2012," in the UN headquarters in New York.
"During the meeting with Foreign Minister of San Marino the Kyrgyz Minister expressed a request to the San Marinese side to support the candidacy of Kyrgyzstan in the Economic and Social Council for the period of 2013-2015" sais the press persive.
The world’s economic, social and environmental challenges are ECOSOC’s concern. A founding UN Charter body established in 1946, the Council is the place where such issues are discussed and debated, and policy recommendations issued.
The Council's 54 member Governments are elected by the General Assembly for overlapping three-year terms. Seats on the Council are allotted based on geographical representation with fourteen allocated to African States, eleven to Asian States, six to Eastern European States, ten to Latin American and Caribbean States, and thirteen to Western European and other States.
