Foreign Minister congratulated peacekeepers of Kyrgyzstan on International Day of UN Peacekeepers

Bishkek, 29 / Kabar /. Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev congratulated peacekeepers in Kyrgyzstan in connection with the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, May 29.The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. 

In 2002 the UN General Assembly on the initiative of a number of states, including the Kyrgyz Republic, adopted a resolution declaring May 29 the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.

The congratulation message says that, the peacekeepers of the Kyrgyz Republic are making contribution to the noble cause of peace and security in accordance with the Charter and principles of the UN. They also strengthen the country’s foreign-policy image as a responsible, responsive and peaceful member of the international community.

Currently, 33 peacekeepers of Kyrgyzstan, the men and women, serve in peacekeeping missions under the UN flag in Liberia, Darfur (Sudan), Abyei (Sudan), South Sudan, Timor-Leste, Haiti and Syria.

Kyrgyzstan is the first country in Central Asia and fourth in the CIS, whose representatives were sent to UN peacekeeping missions in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific.
