Patricia Flor: "The EU intends to continue to support projects aimed at promoting democracy in Kyrgyzstan"
Bishkek, July 25 / Kabar /. The European Union intends to continue to support projects aimed at promoting democracy in Kyrgyzstan. Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, Ambassador Patricia Flor told today in Bishkek during a meeting with Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Asylbek Jeenbekov.
The press service of Jogorku Kenesh reports that, the meeting was held on the occasion of her assuming office. Note that P. Flor replaced Pierre Morel, who served since October 5, 2006 and who also participated in the meeting with the Speaker. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Chantal Hebberecht, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic.
A.Jeenbekov congratulated P. Flor on her appointment to the high responsible position and wished her success in her work, which will be aimed at broadening and deepening of partnership between the EU and the countries of Central Asia as well as the further development of relations between the EU and the KR.
Speaker also expressed his gratitude to Pierre Morel for his significant contribution to the development of partnership and active support in the implementation of democratic reforms in Kyrgyzstan as well as for ongoing EU projects in the country. In turn P. Flor thanked A. Jeenbekov for the meeting, expressed her readiness to continue Pierre Morel’s initiatives, who created a good foundation for cooperation between the EU and Kyrgyzstan.
The sides also exchanged views on the socio-political situation in the country, development of parliamentarism and reforms aimed at strengthening the protection of human rights.
During the meeting, Speaker stressed the need of conducting radical reforms in all spheres of life, including legal and law enforcement systems, healthcare and education.
In turn P.Flor stressed that the EU intends to continue to support projects aimed at promoting democracy, strengthening human rights, economic and social development, regional security.
At the end of the meeting A. Jeenbekov expressed hope that the activities of P. Flor will contribute to further strengthening and deepening inter-parliamentary relations between Kyrgyzstan and the EU and the development of regional and bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.
