Bishkek, May 29 / Kabar /. 257 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment in Kyrgyzstan and their numbers is steadily growing. Vera Tkachenko, International Project Manager, the European Union project on prison reform support in Kyrgyzstan told today at a press conference at Kabar Agency.
According to her data, at present 257 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, including 172 persons who were sentenced after the abolition of the death penalty. "
She also explained that the measures taken to prison this category of prisoners do not meet the legislation.
According to her, most of the contingent - 94.5% are persons of working age - between 18 and 55. 65.5% convicted for grave and gravest crimes.
